well despite my advice a friend went out and bought a black volitan lion for a (you may want to sit down for this!) 30 gal. well i have contiued to tell them that this tank is not even close to being big enough with little results. however they have said that if i buy a dwarf lionfish that they would trade me for it. problem is i only have a 75 which in my opinion is still to small for a volitan and i think even a dwarf should have a 55+ (which i was planning on getting for my 75).
If i don't take them up on their offer that they are going to just keep the volitan (as they are convinced that it will have plenty of room since it's by it's self.
so do i do the trade or not??
if i do i will more than double the tank size for the volitan and he will at least have a chance...???
all comment are welcome.
thanks.

Minimum size for a volitan is usually 75g I have kept mine to full growth in a 240g however. Either he is going to be happier with the extra 20 gallons. If you were a fish wouldn't you be?

LionFish says......
Seeing as I know lions like nobody's business, I will give you my honest opinion. In my opinion the minimum size tank for a Volitan is a 120 gallon tank. My Black Volitan is quite happy in the 120 and he is doing very well. I would have to say that you could keep the Volitan in the 75 gallon for a couple years but would have to upgrade to at least a 120. They are very hardy and take most foods given to them so no worry about that. And you would have a few years to keep the fish in the 75 gallon. Others have different opinions but my belief is that if you're going to take care of a large fish you had better do it right. I would do the trade because your tank could suit the fish for awhile. So get the Volitan, you will love him. Great fish.
