Hi everyone, I'm upgrading my 55 to a 110 and I need a new skimmer. My last one was a red sea prism-I know a cheap one but it actually served it's purpose. It's going to be located in my sump and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, I would like to stay anywhere from $250 to $300, is that possible?
Thanks for your suggestions!

Thanks for the suggestion, I will probably go with that, unless.....what do you think of the RSF-400 filter? I found it will searching for the msx160 on the same site lol... it has a skimmer built in. Previously I had a filter picked out then was going to add a skimmer but i'm wodering about this one?
Thanks!

I have had 2 octopus skimmers and have loved them both. I had the NW150 Recirc, and now have the NW200. Both do a great job on my 175gallon system.

I would just do your own sump and forget the all in one deal. That skimmer pump is like the regular octopus skimmers. It would work, but not as effecient as the MSX skimmers.
If I were you I would also look at the MSX 200 instead of the 160. Right now it is only $20 more money. The 160 would work fine, but for $20 the 200 would allow for a little more stocking and future tank upgrades as well.

I just got a Red Sea Prism skimmer from my friend for free. Im cycling my 75 gallon tank right now, should I start the skimmer now or wait until it is done cycling?

Yeah after thinking about it I figured the all in one filter in the end would probably end up not as good and just another lesson learned-you do get what u pay for. Thanks for your suggestions, I'll think i'll order one of the MSX's.
Thanks again

Ds450x- I'm sure you can go aghead and start your skimmer now, it probably won't collect much for a while, but it's fine.

Some people like to not skim while they are cycling; that way you can leave more "waste" in the tank to get a more intense cycle. I personally do not skim during the first 2-3 weeks of new tank.
