Another QT question

I have a question.Is it necessary to buy a QT before the main aquarium(s)???And do you QT the first fish you get??? :notsure: Any sugestions.

No and no. You can set your QT tank up later, and your first fish does not need to go to the QT tank.

I think you should QT the first fish....if it does get sick and its possible that it will, then you will not be able to treat it in the main tank. Plus you will have a hard time catching it to put it in a QT to treat it. Also it may have some thing that may survive in the main tank long enough to effect the fish once you place it back in there after treatment...Just my thoughts about it.....

Would I have to cycle the QT tank too?Or would I put water from the main aquarium in?

I cycled mine in a couple weeks w/ some bioballs out of my wet/dry and a little sand out of the tank. No pods died and chaeto nice and green( turning it into refuge), but will do another 10/20gal that way soon for another QT on hand( just can't seem to throw the chaeto trimmings away).
