Another Quarantine Question

I'm getting ready to set up my 30g quarantine tank. I just have a few questions.
1) Do I need to cycle this tank?
I'm thinking yes
2) Do I need to keep it populated?
3) Can you tell me what's in your quarantine tank?
4) How long do you quarantine for?

I have a 20 quarantine tank with a Marineland 160 Penguin power filter with the bio-wheel. When the tank is not in use I take the bio wheel and put it in the sump of my 75g tank. They way the filter stays cycled.
You need to cycle the tank or you will have to do small water changes every other day
My quaratine tank consist of the Penguin filter, heater, small powerhead, and I broke clay pots in half to give the fish some shelter. It also has a light, but that isn't absolutely necessary.
I quarantine my fish for 1 month minimum.

Trey;
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! These are wonderful ideas. I will save this post for when I purchase new fish.
One other question, would you quartine ALL new fish on only certain new fish? (aka angels and tangs?)
Thanks,
Connie

Hello,
An additional note, do not use any calcium based substrate/rocks in the Q tank as these react with any meds you may use (especially copper).
My Q setup consists of 50g Rubbermaid storage vat with large PVC pipe parts for hiding places and a canabalized 5g salt bucket with cycled bio-balls for filtration. (PVC piping is inexpensive)
When using anti-bacterial meds such as Maricyn2, I did not remove my bio-filtration but added some bacteria in a bottle i.e. Nitromax from Tropical Science available at:

Good luck, Joe.

I don't understand this. Trey is an unregistered member. How is this? Is Trey an administrator or something? T4AH
