antenna lionfish&clowns

My Marine Aquaria book states that they will eat any fish they can fit into their mouths as well as any shrimp in the vicinity. They reccomend feeding them ghost shrimp and live feeder fish. Seems to me they would happily eat clowns and gobies as well, The Antennata reaches about 7 inches and is half mouth-think about it! General reccomendations are for larger fish-boxfish, eels, large angels or groupers. Fish too large to be inhaled. They are NOT considered to be compatible with any smaller fish or shrimp.

Not the antennata, you are thinking of a different fish, I am thinking of the spotfin or ANTENNA lionfish. that are one of the smallest species

I revise that statement, it appears they are the same, however my aquarium book says that they are more prone to easier food such as feeder shrimp, and shold be fine in a community aquarium, especially one that has fish that are 2" and up, or ones that burrow, and don't swim around much. But thanks for your help

Antenna lions are medium size lions. Smaller than Volitans but much larger than Dwarf/zebra or fuzzy dwarfs. Be sure you have the right name for the right species. IMO you should be fine. I had a Volitans that grew up with a couple damsels and he never looked at them as food. Of course I kept him well fed............

trust me I have a fresh water right now, the one im changing, and my oscar is getting plump, so i stopped feed ing yesterday, and is it true that if you keep a large number of feeder shrimp around, the lionfish will be less likely to eat other fish, and cleaner shrimp

By the way, by reviewing your other posts, I believe what you want is a dwarf lion otherwise know as a zebra lion. Almost identical to the Antenna (correct name is Atennata lion) but the antennata grows too large for the 55 gallon. Dwarf lions get to be about 5 inches long and you dont want to make a mistake and get the wrong species and then either have to get rid of it, or upgrade (very expensive).
I had a Volitans who outgrew my 100 gallon and now have a dwarf lion. They are great little lions and wont outgrow your 55.
