Any Absintheurs?

Just wandering if anybody has any experience drinking or ordering this stuff.
I ordered a bottle from Denmark the other day and to be honest, i'm not even really expecting to see it. But they had a guarantee. Still; I'm understanding this stuff is illegal and customs will seize it if they find it. We'll see.

Funny. I know it's not that illegal.
I've read there are many, many different kinds and even different styles depending on herbs, certain key ingredients, and distillation process. The bitter ones usually aren't distilled. There's also supposed to be some kind of ritual with proper absinthe involving a wierd spoon, cold water and a sugar cube. You're supposed to dilute proper absinthe down to a 3:1 to 5:1 ratio depending on taste, and the sugar is supposed to eliminate the bitterness. You should end up with a milky green liquid. That's just what i've read so far.

While oversees, my shipmates and I bought as much as we could and brought it home.. The legality of the drink has to do with how it is made...The wormwood that actual Absinthe is cured in is what makes it hallucinagenic..IT DOES..We learned to mix it with sprite, but the idea is to mix it with sugar water..It is really licorice tasting..Whatever you ordered offline WILL NOT BE REAL..Sorry..it will be real, but not authentic..Wil be an alchohlic licorice tasting drink...

That

site only sells supplies, no actual drinks.
The bottle I ordered was something like "Alandia Maison Absinthe" at 72 or 65 percent alcohol. I'm almost positive they used percents instead of proofs. If it's not "real" then I'd assume it's not illegal. There were many disclaimers about checking laws and warning about customs seizing shipments. I did some research too and found that you can possess and consume, but not purchase absinthe in the states. I also read there's a bar in New Orleans that will "trade" you something for a glass. I assume nobody has ordered this stuff off the internet before? I'm real curious to see if I even get it.

Oh that stuff tastes terrible!! One of my friends ordered some with the spoons and sugar cubes. I added a ton of sugar cubes and still couldn't drink it. No one could get enough down to get any effect. Then he ordered some weird kind that was supposed to taste like flowers... not any better, just smelled nicer. Worth a try though if you like black licorice.

I like to try different alcoholic beverages so I'm looking forward to it. Back in my days of youthfull wrecklessness my friends and I would get a bottle of everclear on a weekly basis. Sometimes it'd be a gallon, sometimes just a fifth; but sooner or later we'd all get drunk enough to do a round of shots.
Plus I know this old friend who'd do just about anything for some, probably just to even look at it. She said something a good while back when we hung out more about a freaky love-session with the provider. So that's my idea, I've tried just about everything else to get a date and meet new women, all with varying degrees of failure. She's my last option before I have to start actually trying to meet and talk to new women to try to get a date. I shudder at the thought.

I dont mean that if its not real its not legal..That is precisely what makes it legal in the US...The stuff that you can buy and import into the US is not actual authentic absinthe..That would be like ordering narcotics online, and having them shipped in...The bar in NO used to make Absinthe, not sure if they still do (check my location..I know) Anyways, the reason they could make it was once again the wormwood..This is the difference in Authentic and Not...I have had it numerous times and have numerous bottles still around the house..I spent much time oversees, and it was a contest to see who could sneak the most back onboard our ship...There is also more than one color, and you can get into the 90s(I have some 97%) you are right though that it is in percentages instead of proofs

You're probably right. They could be violating international laws or something by knowingly shipping something to a country where it is illegal - I don't think any business can do that, foreign or not.
You've certainly been informative, that's appreciated. I'll just have to wait and see. I'll let ya'll know how it goes, if you're curious what I ordered, do a google search for "Alandia Maison". They say it'll be here in 8 days.

People (mostly American students, when they could get their hands on it), were drinking this stuff in Israel when I was over there - I'm pretty sure it's not legal there either. I didn't taste it, but MAN it stank! Paint thinner and black licorice....eek. And it ALWAYS sent someone to the hospital. Wormwood is no joke.
