I am in the market for a protein skimmer, my tank just cycled and now I need to get a skimmer. There are so many brands and sizes and just wanted some input on a decent one. I have a 95 gallon FOWLR and a wet/dry sump filter with room for a skimmer in the sump not a hang on skimmer. My LFS was trying to sell me one for about $250 but I have seen them alot cheaper than that on Craigslist and ----. I don't want to skimp on this but looking for somthing I can afford. Any suggestions on brands to look for and stay away from? Thanks Keats

I need an in the sump skimmer and am looking to spend up to $150 unless I won't get a decent skimmer for that price then I'll have to spend more. Just wondering if a skimmer is an item where "you get what you pay for"? or can I get away with a cheaper one since I don't have a reef tank just FOWLR?

I have the seaclone 150. I am pleased with it and will get rocks thrown at me for telling you about it. It is a good skimmer for the price. The two biggest issues are the coolection cup is too small, I have to empty it daily and the initial start up, don't know why but it took it about 3 weeks to really start working.
So with that said, look at coralife 125, that would be the next in price, then you will start to get into the $200s. Look on CL for used that could work. I looked and could not find one priced right for old equipement that someone did not want. Scares me.

Now that I posted info on the seaclone this thread should take off.

From experience go with the best skimmer you can afford.
I will upgrade down the road just to see what I am not getting out of my tank.
