I've been 4 years running, though sincerely doubt going this year (relocation and stuff)....
It's a good chunk of fun, though I go for different reasons, mainly to ride the rides (the good ones) at night and for the price of one ticket, get to go to both Universal and Islands of Adventure. And the park stays open till 2am (official Orlando shut down time).
They usually have 6 haunted houses, 3 'good ones' are so, but the lines can be terrible for the houses, easily 90 minutes. Which is basically what you do, go to ride-haunted house-etc. In the walkways and stuff guys 'pop out' with fake chainsaws and stuff and try to scare you. The novelty wears off very quickly though, and they always pick the people that are going to majorly overreact too, I don't mean any offense, but 90% of the time a black teenager.
Great to go with a group of friends, and a girl/guy you're interested in, and have them hung your arm all night.
And oh FYI, they have drink (alcoholic) stations all over too
Though they're hugely pricey.

And the said yep closing time here in Orlando was 2am.. I had a chuckle because me and my friends dont even leave the house here in South Beach till 1:30am most of the times... hahahahh..

I've always enjoyed Halloween Horror Nights, but you really have to be able to stomach hard core HORROR and gore. Anyone who is squeamish is not going to be happy. It is not for small children, so don't even think of taking anyone under 12, unless all you are doing is going to the regular Universal rides. Children can not be left on their own at this place. It can also be a rowdy, rough crowd, so keep that in mind too.
I'll never forget one of their haunted houses that was filled with live roaches! There were actors in there with roaches crawling all over them. It was a pretty controversial exhibit.

Trust me, Orlando has a few blemishes that is otherwise holding it back from being an upper echelon city (the other major is traffic). The ridiculous 2am jazz is probably the top problem. When whenever we have someone from home (Dade/Broward) they always
give a bewildered glare when we yell at them why aren't at 11, because everything closes at 2.
It just literally doesn't make sense (well I get what it's "suppose to do" and still don't agree with it), but for someone who works the night shift, they can't even stop at a gas station when they get off (assuming it's after 2) and pick up a beer and go home.

Good point. Different schools and stuff have trips and what not. UCF's is Oct. 15th. So yea, get a night with a bunch of drunken college idiots, it can be worse then others.

It has been a number of years since I have been, but when I went I was overwhelmed with the number of people that were there! It was just to crowded for me. The lines were 2+ hours and it was wall to wall people everywhere.

To avoid major crowds, you have to pick the right night during the time in October when the event is happening. Obviously, Halloween is going to be the craziest time to go, and anytime during that week. Weekends will also be more crowded.
I remember waiting 2 hours one time, in the rain, to get in to the Psycho haunted house.
