Any flow needed in a refugium??

I setup my overflow box with 1" PVC and a flex hose going into my refugium. My return pump is less than the o-boxes capacity but the flow into the refugium is still really strong and kicking up sand. If I take the flex hose out of that section, there is pretty much standing water in the refuge because the baffles are so high and it's not getting any flow at all. Anyway, I was going to take off the flex hose and re-plumb with all pvc and put a gate valve on it from the o-box to the refuge to control the flow. Would this be the best way to go, or does it really need any flow in there at all? :notsure:

Yes, you do need some flow in there else the standing water will become stagnant and throw off your tanks chemistry fast. Good plan with the PVC.
