i was just wondering if anyone here uses grounding rpobes on thier tanks i been reading on them and for 15$ i think it might be worth the investment just incase it really does work like they say :)

I didn't until about a month ago when I started reading some articles on stray voltage in aquariums. I found that I had 12 volts going through the water. Not only did it affect my digital ph readings, there apparently is some evidence that this stray voltage is harmful to fish and corals directly.
I put in a grounding probe and no more stray voltage.

I measured my tank and had about a 45 volt potential in my 55. I ground all my tanks, and use GFI wall recepticals.
There is some debate on whether it is better to ground or not - An insulated ungrounded saltwater tank with induced voltage offers no path for current to flow. Although when you reach your hand it to the water, you provide a path and this will allow the voltage to go to ground.
Not sure what the right thing to do still - but I do ground all my tanks.

How do you measure for voltage in the tank...and Steve, don't tell me to stick my tongue in the water!
