Hi All. Any reason why I should not get a red serpent star and/or a Sally Lightfoot?
50gal long FOWLR w/some inverts. 60+ lbs LR, 65lbs dsb, Fluval 304, Skilter, Powerheads. Ammonia zero, Nitrite zero, Nitrate was 60 <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" /> but I did a 10 gal water change and turned on the protien skimmer.
1 Purple Tang
2 Percula Clowns
2 Yellow-Tail Damsels
1 Yellow-Head Sleeper Goby
1 Scooter Blenny
1 Serpent Star, 1 Cleaner Shrimp, 3 Pepperment Shrimp, 7 Snails (Turbo, Bumble Bee, Astralia - spell?), 10 Hermits.

We bought a sally cuase it is supposed to have a peaceful temperment..however...ours attacks new fish and anything for that matter that gets to close. We added a false perc and within the first 10 minutes the perc got to close and got poked in the eye. We recently removed the sally since we added a pair of Marron golden striped clows casue the male recieved a gash in his dorsal fin. Needless to say...Sally now lives in the 10 gal tank with the damsels. ::shrugs:: That is just my expirence...BTW...I heard sepent stars catch and eat fish. Good luck.

IMO, a red serpant will do just fine. I've had one in my tank for some time with no problems. Try a few more water changes to get your nitrates in line. Try for 10-20ppm, inverts especially starfish are sensitive to nitrates.

Clowns like to sleep and Serpent like to catch sleeping fish. My Clowns lay on their sides and sleep at night, kinda funny, and they would probably be easy targets ro any predatory animals.

i guess all of these have different personalities. my sally lightfoot is wonderful. it's never bothered anything at all. just keeps to itself and eats and jumps around the tank.

I have a large green serpent who lives in a conch shell. My tomato clown used to always hang out in the shell with him, and other fish used to pop in and out of the shell with no problem. HOwever, I do make sure that the serpent is well-fed, he loves those tetra tabs so I just hold one near him and he takes it from me.

Speaking of Clowns sleeping on thier sides....our pair of Golden Striped did dome redecorating in our tank and how have a nest indention in out sand behinde some LR.

IMO, steer clear of sally's. They cause too much trouble when they get bigger in my exp. I had one that would rip hermits out of there shells and eat them, not to mention chase fish around.
