our puffer is not gonna make it he is still in the q tank with ick we have not even been able to drop the salinity all the way down yet- he is on his side breathing heavily and not moving. we were maybe thinking freshwater dip??? any advice would help he is on his death bed just checked all the water everything is fine please help

If he is on his side and breathing is shallow a freshwater dip would not be a good thing. Hate to say this but he sounds like he is already on his way out.
If you dip him it would just stress him even more.
Just try to minimize stress and do not do anything drastic. He may pull through.

we started hypo yesterday someone told us to do it over 4 days- we are at .015 right now and still dropping weare trying not to stress him out even more today is are second day of hypo not the fourth thanx for the info

we are bringing it down now one more question it almost seems like we are replacing all of the tank with saltwater it is only a 10 gallon q tank any thoughts we only have the swing arm i will go to the lfs and pickup the other tommorrow do you know how much they are??

I think they cost less then a new fish ;) I don't know why you just don't add 2 cups of fresh water and bring it down like Anthem said. You are being so carefull not to "stress" the fish with a salinity drop, while in the meantime he's dying anyways. And like anthem said the benifits of osmoregulation would probably outway the shock of the sudden drop.

So whats the outcome? It kind of built up like a soap opera and now I need to see if the poor puffer made it. Did you get the salinity down? Let us know how hes doing.

we got the salinity down but the puffer did not make it- the ick got to him too fast- next time we have to do hypo we will bring it down faster like the shark reccomended thanx fof all the help
