Any Stingray Keepers? Need Some Advice!

Hello All. Its been a long time since I had to post on this site. I have a 150 gallon tank that I've had 2 rays in for years. I just lost my yellow to a long struggle with a goiter. Anyways I have a 55 gallon with a full grown V. Lion Fish. I want to move him in with my ray and only have one tank to take care of. Any thoughts? My ray is a adult Cali and very healthy. Both the ray and lion and ray are hand feed, I also feed the lion a few goldfish a day. Any thoughts or info would be great. Also if anyone has had personal experience with a tank with these 2 animals I would love to hear the outcome. Thanks

I have had my volitan and my stingray together for about 2 yrs or so... no problems. A couple other thoughts... a 150 is a bit small for multiple rays and a 55 is waaaayyyyy toooo small for a full grown volitan. And feeding goldfish to your lion is not a good idea either.
But as to your question as to their compatibility, they should be fine together.

Thanks for the info. I know my tanks are not up to the book standard on size, but my fish have always been very healthy. Got them all as babies and have had many years of enjoyment, just cant wait to only have to do water changes on one :)

A 150g would be fine for a single ray that is still small. You said you lost one, so I assume there's only the round ray in there. There shouldn't be any compatability problems between a lion and a ray, but be prepared for when both of them reach full size.

PS just for heads up gold fish are not good for lions there are other fresh water fish that are better feeders

Well thats the thing, there both full grown. I'm worried about the lionfish stinging my ray. I also know goldfish are not the best, but they are not his main diet. He eats 2-3 shrimp a day plus some squid every now and then. I just throw the goldfish in as I guess you could say desert :) Been doing it since he was young and he loves them

If they're full grown and looking a little cramped then I'd be looking towards an upgrade on the tank size.

As to the concern about the lion stinging the ray, my ray owns my tank and, when food is in the water, will swim through any fish in its way. Mine has grazed over the lion's spines but the lion will always lower the spines and avoid the ray. I used to have a big, clumsy shark that would essentially go crazy when food was in the water. My shark would climb, swim and walk over anything in its way to get to the food. The lion always avoided these guys.
