any thoughts

I woke up this morning and when i turned on my lights my goby(not sure of the name but he picks sand up and filters it through his gills)darted out from under a rock and started confulsing.Looked like he was having a seizur or somethig.He went to the bottom,twitched a little more the died.What the heck happened to him? All other fish are ok.All water specs are fine.

Thats weird. Sounds like there was something going wrong with him during the night and might have been hanging on by a thread. The lights going on made him move and he spent his last amount of energy during the mad dash. So several questions:
How long have you had the goby?
What are the current water paramiters?
What type of substrate are you using?
When you took the fish out was there anything abnormal about him? Scratches, torn fins, red gills, white spots, discoloration before death?
What kind of tank mates did he have? Anything wrong with them?

It could be that the sudden turning on of the lights scared him to death. Not unheard of at all.
I usually allow room lights to fiter into the tank for quite awhile before the lights go on in my tank. By the time tank lights actually go on, everyone in the tank is already wide awake! Likewise, room lights remain on at nite for awhile once tank lights go off.
