My friend's buddy moved, and he had some fish
he needed to get rid of. So I grabbed his
smallest one, which was a 1 inch Puffer Fish.
The thing was great. I had him in there for
2 weeks before I read about them and how they
can destroy a tank. This fish didn't touch
anything in the tank during the duration of
his stay. But it was great to watch. Just
ate brine, krill and fishflakes. Has anyone
had luck keeping one in a reef?
So, my LFS gave me a Fairy Basslet for it.
But the Basslet never comes out. Anyone know
if this is their normal "shy" behavior or does
it get better?
Thnx

Hey,
I know that puffers will eat any inverts you may have and that they may be fin nippers. I don't keep them so I don't know much about them.
Your Basslet should come out more once it gets used to its new home. It helps if you have lots of lr for it to hide in. You will actually see it more if it has lots of places to hide. Sounds backwards, but it's true!
Great pictures BTW!

i originally wanted a small puffer for my reef, they are cool fish, but are not reef safe. I took the advice of pufferlover and others and decided against it.
You might check the agressives page as there has been discussions on this topic over there.

i too wanted to put a small puffer in a reef once, but i was also advised against it. They're not aggressive fish, and they don't eat inverts or anything like that, but they're just clumsy and will tend to knock over corals and generally beat up a reef pretty good...

What a cutie! We have had 3 different puffers in our reeftank, the first was the first fish I ever bought, we had him about 5 months, he developed a case of ick, we took him out and put him into our qt tank, someone turned the heater up on the tank :( , I was sooo sad, he was my favorite fish, well I waited about a month and bought another one, shut the lights off one night and he swam right into our carpet anmone, my hubby saw him and pulled him out, he spreed his toxins through out our tank, I lost him and our Empi angel. Waited til about 5 months ago and bought a valintini puffer, he is nolonger in the reef though, he moved to the big tank when it was ready. We never had a problem with them messing with anything(each other corals or inverts). Lisa

Hmmm... So I have 1/2 saying Reef Safe, and 1/2 saying not. With 1 person with experience
saying there hasn't been a problem in their
reef. Does anyone have any "personal" bad
experiences with them? Plus there's someone
saying they will eat inverts, and another who
says they won't. sooo... which one do I
listen to?
Saw him again today when I went to buy
brine Shrimp, he's all alone. :( Wanted to
adopt him again. Only $3.99 hehe
