It was a show on crow behavior and although I knew these birds where smart, I still learned a lot about these birds and really enjoyed the program. I definitely looked a little differently at the two that where talking while I refilled my bird feeders this morning and put out cracked corn (which they love) and wild bird seed today.

You put food out for crows? That's like feeding rats to get them to hang around. Rats are are very smart too, but you don't feed them and want them around.

I don't put the food out just for crows, the cracked corn is enjoyed by our morning doves and gray squirrels as well. I don't mind crows hanging around anyway and sometimes I have 40-50 messing around on my property. One thing for sure, they do a great job at getting rid of slugs. I don't really consider them on the same level as rats and they also provide an early warning system for the smaller birds when the Coopers hawks and Merlins come around which is at least a couple times a day. Never had one crow related problem and harming crows is widely regarded as some pretty bad Ju-Ju. LOL

Oh I don't bother the critters, It's just it seemed odd, like you were feeding them. They are very good at getting their own food. People feed pigeons too and I know folks keep pet rats. I was just messing you a little.

That's cool and with all the problems I have with critters that have lower I.Q.s I am glad the crows just hang-out and don't cause me any problems because from what I saw on that show last night there is little I could do about it.

I had a white cat once, really pretty, but mean as a snake. He had no front claws; we declawed him to keep him from killing my mother’s Maltese dogs. Anyway this cat without claws would bring home full grown rabbits it had killed. He developed a taste for crow chicks. He had no claws but would jump from low branches until it got to the crow’s nest and get its babies. I wouldn't of believed it if I hadn't seen him do it.
Well one day as we watched from the window in the kitchen... in the back yard the crows gathered all around our house..It looked like a scene from the Birds, by Alfred Hitchcock. Sure enough here comes my cat...they waited until he was at the base of the tree...and they all went for him, dive bombing him...LOL I didn't know that cat could move that fast, he made it a hole under the porch or he would have died, they meant business.
After that, I never seen him go for that nest again..Mommy bird had called in all her friends to get that cat, it was a calculated attack..They waited till he was in the middle of our 1 acre lot by that tree so they had the most opportunity to kill him before he reached the safety of the house.
