Anybody ever have this?

:thinking: Has anyone ever have just one rock, since day one that only grows moss type algae on it? The fish and hermits graze on it constantly but to no avail, it keeps coming back. I wouldn't say it is hair algae because of its length, but it never really has a chance to fully grow out, they eat it. Nowhere else do I have this problem, just this one rock. So it is not spreading like I would think hair algae would. Is this something I need to worry about, I seem to worry about everthing these days, or is this ok?

I have the same thing in my tank. One softball size rock, that constantly has green almost short hair looking algae. Its always had it, not matter how much the crabs and snails eat..

Me to. I have 3 rocks.

I have one larger rock in my nano that grows a redish looking hair algea all the time. I got 3 emeralds and a couple more hermits when it was out of control. I have thought about it or seen it for a while. Just little stubs all the time....

Do you have Mexican turbo snails? I used to have a few rocks like that and now all of my rocks are clean as a whistle. Not a stitch of algae anywhere. Mexican turbo snails really do wonders.

Your one rock is probably saturated with phosphates or similar. Wish rocks came with little history tags saying where all they've been. At least that's what it seems like.
Pretty sure it's a hopeless battle if it is. Not positive though.

Yeah, wouldn't that be nice if they had a history tag.....You would know which ones to stay away from. I figure since it hasn't spread to any other rock and the fish and inverts like it, it can stay. It has called my tank home since September 2005. Since the tank cycled, I never get any readings on phosphates, so all is good. Knock on wood.
