I've read that they can sometimes be reef safe but not always....I'd like to hear your
experiences....

It is a risk. There are people who have had luck but everyone that I know who has had Dwarf angel in a reef tank, regreted it.

I have had a flame angel in my reef for about 4 months. He never bothered anything at first be he has recently started nipping at my bubble coral.
I used to have a pygmy angel in my reef and it never bothered a thing.

I had a Flame that ate a buble coral. Still gonna try another some day though, I like the way they look.

I have had mine in my reef for five years and never hurt any corals. Nips now and then and moves on. Its just checking to see if its food. They nip at anything. If not properly feeding from enough LR or introduced foods then they may eat some corals.

I'm trying to decide between a dwarf angel and some sort of wrasse...I want something really bright and colorful.....

Mine doesnt hurt anything. I think if you have larger hermits, or any type of stinging coral that will teach them to stay away from everything. I have tons of polyps and zoos and it doesnt touch a thing.
However, he is very aggressive towards new additions to my tank. Ive only recently had success with adding a mandarin and a spotted hawk.

My flame loves to pick at everything but has never harmed any coral. He bumps it but I have never seen any damage. He picks at the LR like its going out of style though.
