anybody use lux meters

saw one today on a website..supposed to be used to place corals for different light requirements. it tells you how much light is in any spot in the aquarium...

If its an underwater lux meter with a built in grate spectrometer then it sure would, otherwise its just another gadget designed to pry another 150 bucks out of your wallet.
Used for photography, they do have some value in the hobby but not as stand alone.
The problem with using them in the hobby is you have to do too much adjusting and compensation for different conditions to get to true numbers.

it is made for fish tanks but you still think waste of money?

no- Its made for measuring ambient light from a given source at a given location.
Just has a saltwater logo slapped on it and bumped pricetag, unless its waterproof. THEN its great!
