Anybody use whole dried seaweed leaves instead of nori?

I was picking up my usual from the asian market - bag of nori for $1. 1 lb of lg shrimp for $5, etc.. (gotta love the asian market!)..
anyway, I came across large leaves of dried seaweed. I was thinking of getting some of this, cutting off a piece, and seeing how my tangs like it. I guess it would be the same, right? but I figured it might be better in that it was shred all to pieces and float around the tank.
anybody ever try it/ hear of using it?

I don't see how it could be any worse I think Nori is somewhat processed so why not, although if there are seaweeds that are harmful it might be a problem but if they were selling them to consume should be fine, oh and I really am just guessing here 0.0 experience

I'm not sure about store bought, but last year I came across a bunch of it down at the beach. I cleaned it, flattened it, and dried it out in the sun. It looked identical to the stuff I was buying at the lfs. But my fish would not touch it, not even my tangs.

I often feed my tangs chaeto from my fuge too. They love any macro-algae, so I don't see why dried seaweed would make any difference.

I used to pay $20-$30 for bags of seaweed sheets at my LFS. I have been going to the asian market for about a year now and getthing the same amount for $6. I get the regual sheets of seaweed made for sushi. Just make sure it is dried and not seasoned.
My fish love it and did not miss a beat!

yeah, same as nori, right?
I agree - crazy how much the lfs marks up the price, eh?
But have you seen the full leaves of seaweed at your asian market? that's the stuff I'm talking about. To me, it would be more like what the tangs would be eating in the wild vs the nori.
And nori is simple just shredded-up/pressed seaweed anyway, right?

YES it is the same as nori.
They make a killer profit on these sheets.
I have not seen the full leaves, but i have not been looking either. I just simply buy the 10"x10" sheets and works like a dream. They chow down on this stuff like it was the last food on the planet.
