Anyone else have trouble with chromis stressing in transport?

Ive bought 3 chromis so far... the place I get them from is 40 minutes away. The first one, I just added a scoop of water every 15 minutes, but it died... The next 2 I drip acclimated with a regulator for about 2 hours and they still died. My params and temp are good. Ive successfully acclimated all other fish (2 oscallaris clowns, a fox face, and a firefish)

Yes, they are bad shippers a lot of LFS have told me this. Also when I started my tank I want a school of them so bought a dozen they all survived the the acclimation but within 6 months the picked each other off. So even if they do survive they don't get along because they are part of the damsel family. There are others on this board that have had success, but there more that don't. There are better schooling fish out there that actual survive.

Also Cardinals they sort a hang out the don't swim much. There aren't many school fish for our tanks because most of us do not have a large enough tank for this to happen in. The reason fish school (the main reason) is for protection in large numbers. They also school for other reasons. In reality we don't have the room to keep them together, meaning they don't feel the need for protection.

Back to the chromis's. Yeah. I stocked a school of 5 and immediately lost 2 to stress. Exactly how you described it. Great water, slow acclimation, dead in less then a week. Glad I bought $12 in crab and snail food right? Haha

Wow, for some reason my email never updated me on this thread... anyway, glad to hear its not just me. Ill be staying away from them. Also, is it possible to keep a 5 gal as a qt tank? Id like to keep a fish in qt at all times (until my tank is fully stocked). I have never kept a small tank before, but this one has a fully covered lid and evaporation is very slow. Ive been cycleing it for about 4 weeks now with lr from my dt and a dead chromis (since it was on hand anyway, i figured its the same as using a piece of shrimp).
I plan on keeping fish no larger than a firefish and feeding sparingly. It is a simple tank with lr ls and a couple plastic plants. I know a qt tank shouldnt have all this stuff but id like all the surface area i can get for bacteria growth. The lfs i get my stock from is incredibly meticulous when it comes to selling only healthy fish so qt my fish is just a precautionary measure. He qt his fish for 2 weeks before selling them, which is rare. And every one of his tanks are set up on diferent systems so diseases cant transfer and he writes the date of arrival on every tank. Anyway, enough babbleing, ive been keeping sw for about a year so im not super experienced yet, but would a 5gal qt be possible?
