I got my Filstar xp3 about 4 months ago to replace an aging 5 year old Fluval. Well i came home to find 30g of salt water on the ground and an inch of water in the tank. I lost a tang, and it is still too soon to see if my puffer, clown, and squiralfish will survive. The rubber ring-thing in the canister lid came loose and water leaked out all over. I fixed it and put the filter on my 80g aggressive tank. Well i came home to find about 30-40g on the ground!!!....the ring came loose again!!! Well i have been fidling with it but it wont stay in for more than a few mins. I have e-mailed the company but no response in 3 days! My carpet is being replaced by insurance! :) But i am very disapointed and dont know if i can trust that this wont happen again! Salt is very expensive where i am and so are fish(I live in the center of north america,Saskatchewan,Canada) Salt costs $49.99 per 50g bag! and the yellow tang i lost cost me $39.99! Although i have had it for 2-3 years! This has been very expensive and i thought i would get a more reliable filter, but my 5 year old Fluval 403 has never done anything as bad as this.
Has anyone ever had a similare problem and what did you do?
Thanks for reading

YESSSSSSSSS!
I had THREE of them, all were faulty in one way or another. I finally just got the whole $$ refunded, for that hunk of junk. I too had a fluval that was 5 years old, and I thought I was just upgrading my aging equipment.
That was before I gave up my old addiction to canister filters! :D
Now, all I use is LR, LS, and a good protein skimmer. Once in a while I'll run a small amount of carbon in a small power filter.
