Anyone ever had superficial thrombophlebitis?

I woke up yesterday with the inner part of my leg (about 4 inches above my knee) hurting like hell. It hurt to bend my knee, I feel it when I walk, and it really hurts to the touch. When I got home after work, I looked it over and the area is red with some purple in the center. I thought I was bit by something but I didn't see any bite marks.
I woke this morning and it still hurt. I can't really tell if it's worse but definitely not better. Anyway, I went to the doctor and she thought it was superficial thrombophlebitis but wanted to do an sonigram on it to make sure it wasn't a deep blood clot. Well the tech person who does the scan wasn't there so they couldn't do the scan. The first person who looked at it was a PA and since the tech person wasn't there, she brought in the doctor. He agreed with her assesment and prescribed anti-inflammatories and told me to alternate a cold/hot compress. I wish they coul have done the scan just to be safe. I may call in te morning to see if the tech person is in.
I looked up superficial thrombophlebitis and it appears to be an inflammed vein. I hope the diagnosis is right and it goes away soon. Anyone ever have superficial thrombophlebitis?

No, but if it gets even a little worse head for the hospital.
When my dad had leg pain like that, they could do a blood test to find if that is what it was, not a scan. The doctor said a blood clot causes some kind of change in the blood that is caused only by a clot so it would be easy to detect..
He had some kind of mesh put in surgically to catch a blood clot if it happened. It saved his life twice. He had his hip replaced three times, he had polio as a child.
