Of course. It's very effective. Just make sure you change/replace it as directed. Some such as Kent Phosphate Sponge 'lose' their charge after so many days and can release absorbed phosphate/silicates back into the water. I know some people that run Phosban in their filter 24/7 365. Just place it in a micro-mesh filter bag, then place the mesh bag in your filter, ontop of the pad.
Works very well, most of the phos removers are just ferric hydroxide and they do exhaust quickly, they'll remove silicates too. I've found that once you get phosphates down to zero, a "maintenance" dose can be just 1/2 the initial quantity. I just run it 2 weeks in, 2 weeks out. 2 weeks is about as long as its effective anyway.
