I've got a buddy who's a really nice guy, but he's a total all out flake as of lately. Over the last 2 years it's gone from bad to worse, lost a job, I pulled some strings and got him another one and then he quit after a week and half, even though he was flat broke, excuse was he was bored.
It's starting to get to be really annoying and us not wanting to be around him.

I have one. He is a really cool guy. Very good looking. He is a body builder and bouncer and in two different death metal bands. Definitely walks to the beat of a different drum....lol. Never know whether he will or won't show up.Never, ever answers his phone, ever......ever.... He can hold down a job though. Thank god.

that's true - but they have to BE a FRIEND. I think people use that word far too liberally. just b/c they someone is fun to hang out with and happens to travel in your circles and gets invited to your parties doesn't mean they are a FRIEND. There must be reciprocity and respect. Without those, there is no relationship, no friendship, no friend. Hard core flakes are not friends.

Maybe your friend has some underlying issues going in his life that are influencing his behavior lately. Perhaps he is depressed, has some other mental problem, or is going through some tough times in general. The best thing you can do is to reach out to him and make sure that he knows you are there for him no matter what.

Everybody has gone above and beyond, it's in one ear and right out the other, we give advice, offer to help out etc...It's to the point where it's just getting old, when somebody elses problems start to become yours for an extended period of time and you see no improvement and no desire to improve and they refuse to take good advice, you have to draw a line somewhere..
