The only filtration I have is my rock and my refugium!!!'
I do not use my protien skimmer anymore and I took out all my sponges!!
But my tank has been established for years - I have had it for 2 years and The person I bought it from had it for along time!!
I have added alot of stuff though

Mantis shrimp are about the most interesting and amazing things i have ever seen. Check them out at <a href="http://www.blueboard.com/mantis/" target="_blank">Mantis Shrimp</a> Simply amazing creatures, too bad they are considered by some as pests.

Cuc I am assuming you never had one in your reef. Cause I promise you once they get to killing all yuor small inverts and fish surely your attitude will change. There are a peast(in reef). Not to mention highly dangerous!!! They are not called thumb-splitters for nothing. There have bben people who have to get digits amputated and others maimed. I personally hate the little

and would would nothing less but have to scrape it off the bottom of my shoe when found.
Sorry to be so negative. I just hate the little hell spawns.

Maybe they aren't good for a reef tank, but for a species tank it would be great. They are some of the most beautiful and interesting creatures around.

I convinced my friend to get one for a species only tank and it is really damn cool. Your right though, i too would be pissed if it took out my fish/inverts. I would most likely ask an unsuspecing friend to remove it for me. <img src="graemlins//evilwhorn.gif" border="0" alt="[Evil Horn]" /> . I'm sure it would at least provide a very interesting spectical to watch.

Very interesting in deed. And Richard you are right. They are unique and if not in my reef then I guess they are cool.

I went out to a lfs in Staten Island where they had one that was about 6-8 inches big. I never thought they could get that large. Would be great to have one to study(not in my reef of course).

We had a mantis(6-8in) in its own tank for a while, very cool critter. Ours was a peacock the same as pictured above. We are still thinking about buying another. Lisa

I was wondering how do they strike. They don't look that furotiuos. Do they have lazer beams or somthing?
