Hi, I was going to order the Megafleo wet/dry sump filter model 4 for the 156 gallon tank that I am ordering but the owner of my local fish store who sells these says that he would not recommend these as he has had complaints that they bow....although he still sells the smaller models of this filter. Does anyone have a model 4? and does it bow? How do you like it?
Thanks, Lesley

I own a model 2. I would only recommend a mega flow with a FOWLR tank. If you are going reef you need to do some research and setup something that is custom to your tank. You will want room for a refugium(as big as you can get) and skimmer. Most just use another tank with baffles in it.
My model 2 works great for my 75gal cichlid tank.

Thanks....I only do fish and live rock and inverts but I wanted to talk to someone who has the model 4 which is bigger and more likely to bow out than the model 2. Lesley

I have a model 4 on my 220 fish only, actually this is my second one. The first started to develop crazing in one corner after 6 months, and developed a small leak shortly after. I contacted my local dealer who replaced the sump at no charge without even seeing mine. (excellent lifetime warranty). After inspecting mine it was determined to be a defect in the acrylic pane on the bottom. The second has been working great for over a year, now bowing at all. I would recommend it.

I don't mean to hitchhike your thread but do you use any type of filter sock to keep particles out of tank. I have the model 3 and notice alot of particles floating in DT

Hi, I have the old Oceanic overflows which were loud when I first got my tank. The owner of my local fish store just said to fill the overflows full of bioballs to muffle the sound.....which I did. Then I saw the micronfiltration sheets or rags, they call them pads, and decided to scruntch them up on top of the bioballs in the overflows the water flows both through and over the top of the scruntched up filter rags. They work perfectly and they come in big sheets and you can cut them any size you like. Every week or two I take them out and put them in the washing machine with a cup of fragrance free bleach (no soap), on small to med. load size and they come out snow white. I then soak them for a few minutes in a pitcher of fresh water with some chlorine/chloramine remover for fish water. I only replace them once a year or so. Works great and the tiny particals are removed before too much reaches the sump. Now I have a wet dry filter in my overflow and one could even do this and not need much in the way of a wet dry below....maybe use it for a fudge?
