hey everyone,
i was thinking to set up a frag tub and wanted to use a 130 watt pc light. i want to be able to put some sps and lps frags in there. do you think i can get away with a power compact? i could get a t-5 light fixture but they come in about 108W ish..
i figure the power compacts would have more wats to provide and this power compact fixture i have enables a dawn-dusk look with 2 switches. i could take out the 50/50 bulb and put in a daylight, and a actinic..
what do you lighting experts out there think?!

any input on this would be awesome..
thanks again!

I dont know about expert but, you can do some sps under PC you just have to have them shallow or make sure they are deeper water specimens. monti caps and digitas should be fine. Ceartain acropora are some of the loweest light photosynthetic corals that we know of. lps are generally fine under pc lighting. you just need to pick and choose which corals you grow under that lighting and make sure the tank set up is appropriate. a shallow tray for growing frags is far more accomodating to lower power light, where as a deeper tank need smore power.

thanks, i thought it could be okay. it will be with a rubbermaid flat tub.
acro, slimer, pocilpora, and lps will all be in there with some zoas.
good to know. !
the tub should be shallow, no more than 2 ft deep..
