anyone have a problem with hartz flea drops?

This afternoon I put these Hartz flea drops on a kitten that someone had sat out at my father in law's. Now he is shaking like a leaf and everything I read says it's a reaction to the flea drops. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what the treatments were. I have washed the lil booger down with dawn dishwashing liquid, like I read on a website. I can't contact my vet until the morning (we don't have an emergency vet clinic). Please if you have any advice let me know. I am sure I won't be sleeping well tonight.
I feel so guilty for putting this stuff on my kitten. I just don't know what to do.

It sounds extreme but you actually can call your local poison control center. I've seen them do it on animal planet.:D And just for future reference, Hertz SUCKS!!! I learned that first hand from my vet. Any company who made millions off of those stupid, stinkin' flea collars is only out for the money. But anyway call your PCC, and tell them it is a cat, but if it were a child what would they recommend before hospital admission.

Most of the flea and tick products that you buy at places other than your local vet are toxic. The vet clinic I worked at had at least 2 dogs or cats a week come in with liver failure because of these products. I only use Frontline and have never had a problem, but even some dogs (cats) will have a reaction to it.

I don't use any of those products, i used frontline about 3 months ago with no luck. So i went to home depot and bought a bag of fertilizer (with flea and tick control) for i think 15.00 tops and i have never had another problem. just a idea. i hope your kitty is ok

Just an update, my kitten (Skeet) is doing much better tonight. I think he is going to be just fine. Thanks for all the replies.

hey, just out of curiousity, did you read to use DAWN or DOWNEY? we use downey on my daughters cat for OUR allergies, is dawn for their benefit?

IF you have a problem with cats and allergies, try head and shoulders.
it controls dander. and dander is the actual cause of most of our allergies, not the hair.
plus, it also helps with eczema(sp)
as to the hartz products, they are not what we all used to think they were.
AND, most of these products are made special for cats becausse the clean themselves constantly and it is harher than we think. KITTENS are an exceptional example, and i dont thik there is anything, shy of vetrinarian prescription that is effective and safe for young kittens. most of these products should not even be used on large puppies up to 6 months old even.
so, be very sure to get for your animal, if you are trying this stuff. IF it is a pup, make sure it is for puppies. IF it si a cat, make very sure it is for a cat, IF a kitten, be extra sure it is designed for kittens.AS well same for senior dogs and ot cats.
IMO, only capstar of frontline should be used and only the animal it is designed for should recieve it. a vetrinary prescription or advise would be best yet though

I washed him in Dawn dishwashing liquid. Don't know what makes Dawn so special but it works. Skeet is acting like his normal self this morning running around wanting to be held and loved on.
I am going to try natural flea meds now. Like apple cider vinegar in the water. If that doesn't work I will just deal with the fleas. I am leary of using anything now. I don't even want to put a flea collar on him.

I heard garlic tablets work pretty well. I'm not sure if they make them for cats, but they work for dogs!! I like advantage myself...
