Hopefully this week, I'll get my brine shrimp hatchery set up. I've got all of the supplies, I think. I'm going to use 2 liter bottles, inverted. Does anyone use this method? Does anyone have photos of their set up?

I just made mine, I dont have pictures though. I used one bottle, cut off the bottom, drilled a small hole in the cape and siliconed an air line in, then took another and cut off the top. cut a hole in the side towards the bottom and put the airline through. I havent tried it out yet, I want to decap my brine first.

I'll show mine if you show yours??

Alright, I made mine today. I'll have 3 hatcheries going (I think) but I'm just testing it with one right now since I don't have any ponies yet. I've read of people using 2 liter bottles and then these canning jars. I like the canning jar because of the lid. So, if this works out like I think it will, I'll do the other two.
I installed a shelf above my newly installed ro/di unit. I then placed an air pump on it with a 3-gang valve (for the 3 hatcheries). I have a basket shelf underneath with a measuring cup and a couple of bar towels.
Decaping wasn't hard; if I did it right.
I didn't see the eggs turn orange/yellow, they just looked yellowish after a few minutes.
I attached a 1x1 wooden dowel (is it still a dowel if it is square???) above it on a piece of existing wood. There is room all around the dowel so that I can move my clip on light around.

ohhhh T...it's so simple...I fill almost to the top....plug in...bubble.....kitchen lights on....and in 16-19 hours have brine shrimp...it's a sfb brine shrimp bottom, 2 litre bottle,[top cut off] and I use undecapped bbs.....I'll show in detail how I feed my dwarves tom. morning....complete with net and rinsing....not hard at all...I have 5 kids plus 6 tanks.....lol...easy is good....never had a hydroid outbreak

my little [lol] bbs factory....I fill till almost the top, and add bbs eggs till it gets brown but I feed 40+ dwarves , reduce to your comfort level...16-19 hrs later a whole batch of bbs....kitchen lights are on all the time....it's a very simple plug and go...I wash my system and go brew again

Yipee!

I came home from work tonight and disconnected my hatchery. I put my jar in the kitchen with a flashlight next to it. Pretty soon I saw the little buggers flitting around. I siphoned out a bunch and fed them to my reef tank. Everyone was thrilled with the new snack.
Okay, so now I know I can decapsulate brine and hatch....almost ready to order!!

This week I also stocked up on some medication for my 'seahorse' medicine cabinet.

It is SOOOO nice to see someone do all their homework and prep work BEFORE bringing the horses home - GOOD GOING!
Congrats on successfully raising the food - sounds like you're ready for the final reward.

Thanks. I hate to spoil it but, I have learned my lesson. I've changed so much already with my DT. I bought a 10g sump/fuge (for a 29G) and decided that I wanted to make changes after plumbing it into my tank. So...I made my own sump/fuge out of a 20g and replumbed everything again. Then I helped a good friend do his. I've had ick in my DT. I've put things in that I shouldn't have. I didn't have think that the anemone could get between the little tiny slots on my Koralia nano. Those are the things I can think of off hand too! Like so many here, I wish I would have found this and other forums before I did anything. But (!!) before starting our first tanks, my friend and I both read different books on aquariums and spent many hours debating different things. We didn't go in blind, we just didn't have the experience we do now.

Like anything in life, hind-sight is 20/20. I'm sure that after I have ponies for a while, I'll look back and cringe at the mistakes I've yet to make. This time, I'm starting slow.
I'm just glad that everyone here is so patient with all my questions and so friendly about answering them.

Thanks. It's great to feel welcomed. I've been a member on a Scuba forum for years and know so many people there that is was daunting coming onto here and knowing no one.
Does anyone know if Mandarins might eat BBS? I put the ones I made in my test batch in my DT. Everyone seemed thrilled to have a snack. I was just curious if my Mandarin might eat those?
