I'm in Vista- Shadowridge actually-
I'm just setting up a new saltwater tank. I have all the gear, I'm just trying to figure out if I should use the 55 hex or the 55 long...
Any suggestions on where to get LS or aragonite around here?
Thanks...
joe

I was referring to southdown tropical playsand. It's a cheap substitute (5-10 bucks for a 50 pound bag) aragonite.
If you search these boards, you'll see a lot about it. It just seems like a great deal...
I wanna avoid spending 150 bucks on aragonite and ls.
thanks.

or go to the beach and collect some. that would be cool too. just stir it up big time in a bucket of water dump out the water and keep doing that and try to get as much crud out as possilbe.
that would be cool

Hey guys. I'm here in Oceanside. Nice to know there's people around here too. Unfortunatly, the only way to get the southdown sand is to have a friend or relative ship it from back east. It's found at most east coast Home Depot stores. When I was up in Wa., I tried to get my local H.D. to order a pallet for me, but they were unable to. It's nice sand, but I've also used the white silica sand and never saw a difference. The silica debate used to be big on the boards, but I never saw any ill effects from using it. Hope to get to meet you guys some day.
I wouldn't recommend using beach sand. Even though it looks clean, it isn't . I was once told to think of the beach as natures protein skimmer. Hope that helped.
Matt.

I live in tierrasanta, love aquticwarehouse, I buy everything from them never had a problem with anything yet. I would not use the sand from the beaches, think about all the problems that tj has with dumping all the crap in the water, it makes it way up here all the time.
