I just bought a JBJ Nano 12 DX used on ----. Since getting it, the LFS and other hobyists have warned me that some brands of "Nano" tanks are a major fire hazzards. I did a search on this forum and found old threads talking about current and aquapod brands...Are are these the only ones that have had troubles, and does anyone have any issues with the JBJ Nano? Their website says that their 2006 :help: models are UL listed, but mine, made in dec 2005 has no UL sticker...Anyone have any guidance for me?
Thanks Y'all

I got good news and bad news for you.
The good news is that, it was the aquapods that had the fire problem/person getting shocked. It was not the JBJ nanos.
Bad news is the older nano cubes (one that you have) have had some minor complaints from some people that had said their tank glass cracked and water /corals/fish died. To tell you the truth, I had a old version of a 24gal JBJ (that ppl also complained about the tank cracking) but it never hapend to me. Only fill up the water to the recommmended level, not anything more then that. You shoud be fine.
All in all, i love the JBJs and im going to be getting a 12gal DX JBJ. I dont think you should be worried. Its the aquapods that had the problem.

I have read a lot on these nano sized tanks on various forums and have not ever seen or heard of any of them catching fire. There are various problems associated with various brands and it seems each brand offered has its own brand of poison associated with it, but none are fire related...
The biggest concern with your 12DX is cracked glass. Make sure you do not have any minute scratches or cracks already there, just waiting to propagate further. If there are scratches, keep a close eye on them, not that there is anyhting that can be done, about them, but just sort of watch them to see if they turn into a crack.....Biggest polace they start is at the front corners. Make sure the unit is setup on a flat planar surface. Have fun.........if yu do not have any cracks aor major scratches and its a used tank, I would feel pretty confident in its integrity as most usually broke within a few months or even days.
NANO by JBJ nortorious for cracked tanks, and poor pumps, noisy fans
AQUA Pod by Current......initial wiring problem (now totally recalled and fixed) not any problems with glass other than broken glass during shipping, and some bad pumps and noisy fans
BIO CUBE by Oceanic, noisy fans and water level height regulaton
