So I have been looking at protein skimmers for my 24g nano cube. Do I really need one if I am doing 5g a week water change? And if so what about this one- Current USA Powered Venturi Fission Protein Skimmer, 84 gph (320 L/hr) submersible air injection pump, protein skimmer, suction cups for mounting, hanging clip, two connection elbows and six bubble reducing pads.?
Is this an alright brand? Performance...etc. Any info will be helpful. Thanks alot everyone!!!!

You've already got the tank up and running. If you arn't having problems you don't really need a skimmer. A good skimmer will pull a lot of waste out of your water, but if your tank is handling the wastes it isn't going to offer much benefit.
That particular skimmer has been reviewed very badly in every customer review I've seen. Do a google search or even a search on these boards.

i thought i didnt need one in in my 28 since i changed out 5 gallons weekly, then i added my skimmer onto it and wow.. im dry skimming and it has so much nasty gunk.
if you have the nanocube im not sure what you can add to it, theres good and bad reviews about the sapphire skimmer.. i dont know if people know how to use it or not since a lot of the time it seems people give up when they dont see anything within the first week

Or you could add some plants to your DT and some Chateo with a small light to your rear middle chamber.. if nitrates are an issue this is a great inexpensive alternative to help keep them down.

I have another post around this forum somewhere explaining why I don't feel skimmers to be necessary to nanos. Basically, nanos require weekly water changes of 3 gal or so up to 7 or 8 gallons. Unless you have a skimmer that can produce a couple gallons of skimmate in a week, whats the point? You will be removing what a skimmer would have removed anyway with consistent water changes. Some chaeto in a refuge should take care of any other chemistry issues.

the current USA fission one is acceptable, if you want something that works great and is reliable check out "Saphire Aquatics Skimmer" they have skimmers specifically designed for each model cube.
