Can anyone tell me how to build a wooden stand around a metal frame?
Maybe I should explain better. I may be given a metal stand for a tank and I have seen some tank stands that have the metal stand as the frams and then wood encasing that frame and it looks pretty good and I wanted to give it a try, since I may be getting this metal stand. Thanks in advance and I hope that I have been clear enough in my description of what I want to do.

You could either attach wood veneer to the metal bracing with construction adhesive or you could build a decorative cabinet around the metal. Just a box that the frame stands inside. This would give you a lot of room to hide the "necessary Uglies"
