I found these on ---- sound like a great deal great watts all kinds of alleged feedback from reef growers who have tried..anyone evr use these? You are bidding on 4 brand new FluoreX™ grow lights.
This light uses technology called Fluorex™ and puts out 8255 lumens. They have a Kelvin Rating of 6500 and put out the same blueish light spectrum as a Metal Halide light but costs only pennies a day to operate! This light is perfect for small to medium gardens and tight spaces where heat can quickly become a problem.
The heat output is very minimal.
The lamps are 12.5 inches long, 8 inches wide, 4.5 inches deep, with removable plastic lens covers. Has a 5 foot extension cord that plugs into any standard outlet and has a on and off switch on the housing. The handles are easily removable for hanging from the ceiling. The screw-in hooks and chains are available at Wal Mart or any hardware store.
The electronic ballast is absolutley silent and since there is almost no heat output, there is no need for cooling fans, etc.
Why would you invest $250 to $1,000 on a lamp that sucks electricity like an extra stove or clothes dryer? If you grow indoors or want to start growing indoors, or if want the most impressive aquatic plants or corals possible without the bulky, super-hot, electricity-sucking old fashioned grow lights,
YOU NEED THESE LIGHTS!4 of them for 150$ 500watts a peice

dboy-These are sold at home depot for 30 bucks a piece. Though they are bright, quite bright, I've been warned about the light spectrm.
I have one on my fuge under my stand, and I have in addition to 4 -36" acintics in my hood, one of these lights modified with the ballast mounted remotely, and the bulb and socket attached inside the middle of my hood. My wife was nagging at me because the living room was blue (from the acintics) so i popped one of these in my hood to give it a more natural light look. The acintics still shine throgh and the tank looks blue, but the living room is now a bit more normal looking.
I will warn you though, I burnt one of the ballasts up within a week, but I just returned it for a new one at home depot. The bulbs and sockets get quite hot, not enough to make a big difference in the tank's temp, but something to keep in mind. They also have an annoying little light sensor attached to the case, and you might need to do what I did, and duct tape the sensor so it doesnt shut off on you. It's made for mounting outside and it will shut off if the fixture thinks it's too bright.
HTH
EDIT: These are definately not blue btw, they are very much natural light looking.

I use a similar light for a fuge and extended the sensor to my top lights to have my fuge do reverse lighting without another timer. It worked out nice.

does it say each of the lights are 500 watts?
sounds like a scam, you got ripped off if you bought them.

They are not really 500 watts they give the same light as a 500 watt incandesecnt )sp?) light. I think they are 27 watt PC's.

I have 2 of these still, they are 65 watt sorta PC bulbs. I dont know if you can consider them pc, technically maybe they are but i dont think for the reef tank application they are what most people consider "PC". I ran my 55 gallon off of 2 of these for about 3 months. I never had anything besides LR and everything was fine. I soon added the acintics when I started buying mushrooms and polyps.
