I did for the first time last month...well first time I mixed stuff all together anyhow. I bought a half pound each of...shrimp, oysters, scallops, and bought a bag of clams that I shucked and put in, also added 5 or so algae sheets. No compliants from the fish...except my trigger who will spit out the algae when he gets a piece mixed in
. I might put fish in next time...I would try other things as well, but this is all my grocery had to offer.

I just did this. I used 6 shrimp, small head of broccoli, 1 clove of garlic and some seaweed (Dried). Just put in food processor and minced it up. Put it in a small ice tray and froze. Fishes love it.

What kind of fish? Do I need to use saltwater fish or can I use nasty cod or catfish?

This I am unsure of...I have heard of people talking about using white fish, and to stay away from oily fish like salmon...but I don't know the specifics per se'...this is why I avoided it on my first try. Can o' tuna is what I was thinking...though my grocery does have white fish.

I just slice up a piece of raw, shelled shrimp. My fish love it and the serpent stars come out to play!

My porcupine puffer loves shrimp by itself...I often have to go a few days, till I can get it to eat something else. Don't want it eating just one type of food. I have learned it really likes squid as well, and will eat scallops in a crunch, but seems to sift most of it back out. This feeds my damsel and trigger in the tank though

how fine are yall making the fish food? i have the magic bullet that i use to chop the food but i think i'm mixing it to fine because it comes out more like mush that small chunks. my fish are small (2-3inches) so its hard to determine the right size food for them. oh my fish are 2 chromis and 1 O. clown, in a 135g...i know, thats a pathetic fish list for that size tank. lol

I have been making my own fish food for the last 4 years which consists of the following raw materials:
6 - 8 med Shrimp
3-4 Sea Scallops
5-6 Mussels
5-6 Claims
Little piece of salmon
2-3 Oysters
Kent Garlic
2 teaspoons of water
Seaweed cut into small pieces
Cyclopeeze
I mix this all up in a food processor (Leave it on the chunky side) and then put it into ice cube trays and in the freezer it goes. When it hardens I cut it into quarters and put in a zip lock bag. I then take a piece out and put it into a cup along with the aquarium water to defrost and pour it into the tank. The corals also like this combination.

how much does a processor cost? will the "magic bullet" do an adequate job?

JoJo, that would work. All you want to do is combine all the ingredients together until it is a past. I like mine a little on the chunky side this way the fish can nip at it. If too fine it will dissolves too fast in the water.

I put mine in a 6"x6" section of "egg crate" flatten it out and freeze it in a ziplock bag. When I need food I just pop out a piece from the egg crate.

just be sure not to use an oily fish, like tuna or salmon. You can add a very small amount for nutrition. I use a frozen seafood mix from my grocery store which contains squid scallops cuttlefish, shrimp, and clams. The key is to use fresh, or frozen raw seafoods, they are superior to cooked foods.
