Anyone run their Biocube without the plastic light protector?

I've noticed that the clear plastic cover between the lights and the water has turned a little yellow. Anyone run their Biocube without it? Or, has anyone replaced it with something else?

I have an hqi pendant and not the compact lights though mine did come with a glass cover. The cover was constantly gettting a lot of salt on it and I thought that enought light wasn't getting through. I ending up removing it and made a tope when pond netting thanks to Spanko's advice.
My problem is that I am sucking at getting stony corals to grow. All my parameters are checking out fine and I have upgraded to a better hqi bulb. So frustrating!
Anyway, I sidetracked there.
