anyone use fluid sand filters?

after doing alot of reading on here,my setup seems way off.but its what the lfs set me up with.i have a fo 90 gal,2 sand filters,hot magnum,cpr skimmer,dolimite bed,2 power heads,double strip light.all i see on here is ls,lr,skimmer.i ask because the tank is now fresh water,but im thinking of going back to salt.i still have all that old stuff.but i d like to get a bigger tank.thanks for any input

I use a fluidized bed sand filter on my reef tank and honestly I can not say if it helps or not as I am also running a refugium and my nitrates stay at zero. So it is a toss up but I would have to say it does. At least it looks cool (haha). On a fish only though I would have to say it can not hurt.

does yours spit sand out into the tank? i get alot out of the tank when cleaning.im not sure how often i should refill the filter with sand,what do you do? thanks
