I have a PB Tang and Tusk with Ick in an FOWLR tank and I do not have a hospital tank... I plan on using Kent RXP on my tank. Has anyone used this product. I know people say that Hypo and Copper are the only consistent ways to rid ick but my options are quite limited. You input is appreciated. Thanks

Hi there,
Terry is right, copper and hypo is most effective way. QT IS optional, but to be highly recommended. If only as insurance. And they are quite cheap to set up.
I have used Kent RX-P in the past, but not as recommended. I spoke personally to the head biologist in charge of Kent Marine in Europe, and he told me this:
Day 1 - Treat one dose of RX-P
Day 2 - Treat one dose of Poly-Ox
Day 3 - Rest (do nothing)
You HAVE TO HAVE A SKIMMER for this to work. It worked for me, and basically what it does is that RX-P contains an irritive pepper based substance which causes the fish to shed a layer of mucus. With the mucus it will shed the parasite, and on the next day Poly-Ox will help remove the organic material and it contains freshwater plant extract that will sooth the fish (who will be irratated). You may have to do this 3 day cycle a few times to catch the parasite. It worked for me after 2, but 3 months later I had Ich again.
Its not the best way, but if you really want to do it that way, thats how to do it. This wasnt independent advice but it worked in the short term.
Garlic also helps, a natural repellent to Ich and has many vitamins in it.
Good luck,
Tim.

Tim,
I have a quick question. When you used RX-P did you treat the entire tank or just your QT? I was under the impression you could not use this on a full tank if you had any invertibrates (sorry about the spelling there), is this true? I have a starfish that I was worried I would kill as well as a good amount of live rock. I would love to know for the future.
I actually used this product as a dip, as per the label, for 2 days in a row. One capful to 1 gallon of water from my DT. It has been almost 3 weeks since I took each fish out, dipped then returned to display tank. No ick so far has returned. I must admit that my porcupine puffer did puff up, tear his underbelly and died during the process though (i did not know you could not remove a puffer from the water, error on my part). All other fish are ok after this process. Still crossing my fingers!
Thanks for any help.

I once thought about trying RxP but on the bottle I think it says something about some invertabrates creating a mucus layer because of the irritation caused by the medicine. Needless to say after reading that I decided to purchase a QT and save my livestock the irritation.

Hi ssandalson,
No i used it on my main tank with inverts in there. Its fine for most inverts and does not contain copper. However, there is a list of some things which you should check you do not have in your tank on the bottle, got a feeling starfish maybe one of them, but check to be sure.
Hope this helps,
Tim.
