So I went to a lfs the other day and I have a problem they had a grey banded cat shark about 1 1/2 to 2 feet long in about a 125 gallon tank thats my first problem second they had no lights on the tank what so ever third he had abrasions on his tail and side of his body because the substrate they were using was small cc looked pretty jagged to me. Now this is there pet they are not selling him at all at this really got to me and makes me mad just wondering if there is anything I can do like call the spca I do want to at least give them two weeks to change the tank and other stuff but will the spca do anything I believe it is animal cruelty but will they believe it?????????????????????????

unfortunately i highly doubt spca will do much better for the fish themselves than that lfs is.they are not quite as picky when it come to fish as they are mammals.if the shark were unhealthy it would be dead(they dont do well under bad conditions at all) the abrasions are very common in sharks and rays due to the enviroment lr corals and crushed corals..and yes even sand. cat sharks get right into the tiniest nooks and crannies of LR which can cause the abrasions, but they also have a higher tolerence to baterias than other fish do in aid of speeding up the healing precess of thes minor abrasions .if the spca where to get into this type of captive restritions most hobbiest and fish suppliers and stores would be out of buisness.if this fish is alive and feeding its not as bad for him as it may seem.
