Anything new about Solaris Lighting?

Just wanted to know if anyone who has used the Solaris lighting system has any comments about it. Repair problems? Corals doing better with it?
Worth the money? Thanks

I post about this system every so often to see how many people are using it and have comments about it since it is relatively new (and costly)

I don't have one but I heard good things about them. I heard that they keep the temp down in the tank and the corals look real good, they put out as much light as metal halide light but with out the temp. But they cost to much for me I would love to try it on my 58g tank.

At my LFS they keep clams under them in a cool ZeroEdge tank, though it's not very deep. I would like to know what people's real world experiences are. Might be something to consider on a 8x2x2 tank that I'd like to get if someone has a 2 foot or deeper tank they have it on with good results.

They still have a ways to go before I think anyone could consider them "proven." Plus the price is just out of range for most people. I've heard both positive and negative things from people that are using them, so we'll just have to wait for all the kinks to be worked out. Someone on -- has a 210 build-diary going and he's using Solaris, maybe you'll want to take a peak and see what he thinks.
I guess PFO is working on or has recently released a new unit called Galileo, which is a lot simpler (and cheaper) than Solaris. Don't know much about it though.
I'd rather stick to T5 or halides since they've been proven to work the best. There are too many factors to take into account to say that the Solaris' light output is equal to that of a 250w halide setup; bulb, ballast and reflector.

I reopened this old thread to see if anyone has had experience with these Solaris Lighting Systems...positive or negative.

My scsi sense is tingling... but no, I haven't any experience apart from seeing them in operation. Too expensive IMO...
I would have told you a few months ago to sit tight because LED prices are dropping dramatically, but now that this whole patent thing has come about, I don't know what's going to happen...

There is a guy on another site that has teamed up with nano tuners to develop their LED's. Check this one out. A Japanese style spotlight type LED that screws into a standard light socket.
Link Removed.

Not sure if they went under, but you know about the whole patent issue, right?

Is that site that the link was removed on a violation of the rules here? I don't think they sell anything that would be in competition with SWF. I don't see any forums there. I don't see any advertising for other sites that would be competition for SWF.
Little confused here, but I will abide by not posting it in the future.

I don't know all the facts. My understanding of the matter is that a company that makes unrelated products called Orbitec holds a broad patent on the use of LEDs for plant growth and biological purposes. They sued the pants off of PFO, and PFO did not have the financial abilities to fight it.
The last I heard, PFO had basically shut their doors having exhausted all of their financial resources trying to fight this.
However, in googlin'round, it looks like the fixtures are still being sold, so maybe something changed?
