apatastia

when I go to my lfs I notice that they have some apatastia growing in their tanks on rocks
- they are not selling these rocks
but the tanks are display tanks and the water runs through all the tanks
If I buy any corals from them, as they are in the same batch of tanks- could I accidently bring home apatastia?
Is it a waterborn critter that floats when it is an egg until it attaches then begins to grow?

They do divide, but you could get aptasia from something that came from that tank. That is why you should quarantine EVERYTHING that you get before putting it into your display tank. I made that mistake once by putting in a coral that was attached to a small rock. No aptasia visible on that rock and what happened??? I got like 6 aptasia that sprung up in my tank within 2 weeks.
QT them and after 4 weeks if nothing...then put it in your main tank.

even if it does have aptaisia on it its nothing to panic about. you just blast it with some boiling kalk mix. i bought a rock that i knew had aptasia but when i got home i just killed them and.... no more aptasia!

Or you can get rid of them naturally and get pepermint shrimp. within a week my 3 pepermint shrimp will remove large amounts of aptasia from any rock i buy. you can see it being eaten and before long it's all gone. best part is... theya re cheap.
