And right now im an addiction counsellor and have been for about 1 and a half years, but this feild has a very high burn out rate, and its not that im burned out but, I now know from being in the feild that its not what I want to do for a career, I would like to be totally out of the human services field. My grandpa was an electrician and I think I would like to try it, im just not sure how to go about it, b/c im not sure if companies will want to take a chance with me, but who knows.

As of right now due to the economy the electricians union hall in Detroit is not accepting applications. I think their is a back log of around 1500 laid off electricians who can't find "local" work. With out there being enough work for the current members, they can't accept new members. I just spoke with them the other day, as I'm trying to get a friend into an apprenticeship of some sort.
Its extremely rare to be hired as a starting apprentice by a company atleast on the industrial side. The construction/ commercial side is a little better off. Working out of a hall is usually the easiest way to get into the field.
Its a great field though, where you can always find work if you're willing to travel. As well as having nearly unlimited earning potential. I'd look into some local community colleges as they often can help guide you into the trades, check out your city hall as larger cities may have apprenticeship opportunities that aren't advertised well, I'd even call some local electrical contractors and ask them for some guidance. Good luck.
