This is my first try at keeping up with a thread for everything I do to this tank so bear with me! haha!
I set the tank up the last week of December. Everything was transferred from my 5.5g except the sand.

At this point it was more of a makeshift setup with a tiny filter on it and everything kinda thrown together. The new lights are 2 2x20 watt current T5s. I have both actinic bulbs in one fixture b/c I love actinics and have never had them before!

Recently I have added a few awesome corals which I'm excited about seeing them grow out. The red and green favia is awesome (now theres a brighter one at the LFS, maybe I'll trade it out). I got my first few SPS from a reef club member and some amazing clove polyps with green centers and yellow veins.

Now, the tank obviously needed some more LR, so last night my awesome friend gave me a nice big piece. It has made a huge difference! I think I need another small piece to balance off the other side of the tank. I want to leave sand bed b/c I want another brain for it, so getting LR stacked high without taking up the sand bed is really tough. After 2 hours I finally got the stack stable and looking decent.
Excuse the food floating all around, they just got fed

Just Actinics

I also now have a Maxijet powerhead in addition to a hang on back filter with carbon in it.
My totally awesome friend also let me steal part of his huge ricordea rock. They looked dull in his tank, they look a bit brighter in mine. I really love them!

Here are some more random pictures from today

Hey i don't want to jack ya thread but i wanted to ask you a question. I have a 10 gallon long that i want to transfer to maybe a bowfront. They have a 36 gallon at ***** for sell for 120 dollars or so. I wanted to ask you how easy it was for the transistion with the fish and corals and all ? Did you have to wait for a cycle or did you just put everything in your 5.5 gallon straight into the 16? One LFS said i would need to completely wait for a whole new cycle and the other said if i have LR in my 10 gallon than i wouldnt need to wait for a cycle. Just wondering how you did it. And BTW Wonderful looking tank. i like it alot.

The transition was very easy. Its the second time I've moved things to a bigger tank. I bought new sand but kept everything else. Put the new sand in, then fill the tank with some premixed seawater (I also used nutriseawater). Put all the coral from your old tank into a tub with some tank water with the LR and put the water from the old tank into the new tank. You can leave the fish in the old tank with a small bit of water. Once you have water in there start adding the rock then just add the corals and fish. Don't add any new LR at this time. Let the tank settle for a few days then add established LR bit by bit to avoid a cycle. The big thing is to watch carefully for any signs of something going wrong. Its really quite simple.

thanks! i really do love the rics. The GSP was actually growing on an in tank filter which was really cool. Its back in the 5.5 g at my dad's office. I may try to get it to grow on the glass in this one. I really like the idea/look.

I took my friend to pick up a new 125 at a wholesaler going out of business sale and ended up picking up 10 bleached ricordea for $5. Looks like 5 should survive, one of them being an orange. Really excited about them! I love saving coral and seeing what they turn into. Two of them are completely white, so who knows what color they will be!
I rearranged the tank a bit so I'll try to get pics tonight!

Haven't updated this in forever! So much has changed. I added 5 more lbs of LR last weekend. Corals are growing like mad as well. My orange monti has grown a lot!
A couple days ago it looked like this:

Now its looking like this:

I picked up this awesome yuma for $10! A great new fish store opened up on the other side of Atlanta. LR is just $3/lb! Can't wait to go back!

I will take some more pictures after I clean it up today of tomorrow.

yeah, its really nice rock too. One piece that went into my dads nano had 3 nice brightly colored shrooms on it. The rock is very much alive.

Thanks! I took some more pictures today. Excuse the blurriness, the bowfront causes the pictures to distort that way.

You can see how much the orange monti has grown
