I just picked up a used aqua c remora HOB for my 50 gallon tank. And this baby is pumping out the micro bubbles. Is there a way to stop this? The previous owner said I could and shoould add bio balls or rubble to the exit chamber to add a extra level of filtration is this a good idea or was he just trying to sell me rubble? Any help would be appreciated Thanks

remoras do this a lot for the first couple weeks, but ive had micro bubbles in my tank for over a year, so if you keep having problems i guess go ahead and try adding the bio balls or rubble.

I've been running mine for about a month now and still have the micro bubbles. I ordered the surface skimmer attachment yesterday in hopes that it will help with the bubbles as well as the surface skimming.

I have had the remora hob filter on my sump for over 2 years now and for the first 2 months on and off it made the micro bubbles but after that they went away and havent started again. It takes a while for this skimmer to stop making the bubbles but eventually it will start working wonders! Also it will pull out ALOT of water in the beginning and fill the cup up daily or 2 times a day. Eventually it will start to just pull out skimmate and a tiny bit of water it just takes a little while with this skimmer. I love this skimmer though it pulls out alot of junk...hope this helps

This skimmer box works very well at eliminating bubbles. It also skims the surface, hides the pump, and provides a good place for filter media. (Chemi-pure, silicate remover,Phosphate remover,or whatever.) You're right about the room; but, naturally, the bigger the tank, the less of an eyesore it becomes. If your tank has a black or very dark blue background, it really doesn't look that bad---IMO, it looks better than the powerhead & hose it hides.. This is , by far, the best HOT skimmer I've ever used and I really like being able to use and change various filter media by just tossing the bag in the box. I think adding rubble to the skimmer itself, would probably have a bad effect on the skimmers overall performance.

i received the remora today w the surface skimmer. the surface box is huge! and i couldnt believe how tall the skimmer sits outside the tank. lets just say, i regret getting it bc my t5 light wouldnt fit over my tank w the remora hanging in the back bc of the tube intrusion. the remora is now going to my 150 fowlr now instead of my 72.

I just installed my surface skimmer and have to say that I really like the way it looks in my tank. It really blends in well with my black background. The microbubbles are all gone and the surface no longer has that slick look to it. The slick was pretty minor, but now it's totally gone. Thirty dollars well spent even if it's just a plastic box with a sponge!
