Hello, I'm reaching out to any and all skimmer guru's. My tank has been up for about two years now 55gal reef. Since the initial cycle of my tank I had a regurlar remora skimmer on it and it seemed to break in a lot different than the new remora pro I upgraded to. The reason I upgraded was that I added a larger sump and refugium bringing my gallonage to about 70. I figured the pro would handle the water volume better and lend itself useful if I ever wanted to ge a larger tank in the future. Well I set the thing up (with the prefilter box and mag drive 3 pump) and instantly began overskimming like crazy! I have the collection cup raised to its fullest extent and this thing is spewing white foam into the cup very quickly. I have the drain fitting with mine and I filled up a 2 liter bottle in about 15 or so minutes with clear-ish water. It has been running on my tank now for about 30 or so hours. I now have the drain tube run back into the aquarium just so I dont lose all my water! lol. I just wanted to know if this was normal with this skimmer during break in? I didnt notice my regular remora do this... I did the freshwater rinse before installing all of the skimmer components too. Just to ensure my tank is at least getting some of the impurities out of the water, I am dumping a portion of the skimmed water out every so often. Im just worried that my established reef will suffer if this skimmer isnt performing like my old remora did and organics are being left in the water. Any insight or advice you can give me is greatly appreciated!
