Aqua C Remora Pro break in?

Well my remora pro is now 3 weeks old and is still putting out a ton of bubbles. I have read on here that it would go away after 3 weeks. Is there any truht to this? Also I have the collection cup adjusted so it is sitting as high as possible, but it is completely filling up to the top after about 18 hours of use and it is really wet foam. Is this normal?

I am interested as well 'cause I am expecting my Remora Pro to arrive next week. I know thay don't have the same design as my current skimmer (seaclone) but is there any adjustment that you can make to the unit? What does the stuff you are collecting look like? It should be dark nasty looking stuff and not a wet foam. If not, the unit isn't setup correctly.

Well it is definitely a wet foam. I clean the collection cup once and sometimes even twice a day. It is not dark at all, but about the color of urine. My remora is set up with the mag 3 pump and there is no adjusting it what so ever. The is no way to adjust the water flow or the amount of air produced. The only thing you can do is slide the rubber o-ring on the collection cup all the way down to the bottom so the cup is sitting as high as possible. This is supposed to be the position to collect dry foam. But so far after 4 weeks of use and with the cup positioned at the highest point, I am still getting all liquid in the collection cup. Will someone please help me!!! Do I just need to wait it out longer for it to break in? Or is there something wrong?

FWIW, I have had my Remora for a few months and it basically produces mainly wet foam which dissolves into a dirty green liquid solution. However, not with quite the volume you are describing. I am getting about 3/4 cup or so per week. The cup is set fairly high. I think the amount collected will greatly depend on the system. You may just have a lot of stuff in your system to skim initially
As to the bubble issue, mine decreased with time, although I moved my Remora to my sump so bubbles aren't as big an issue.
The fact that there are no adjustments on the Remora is one of the things I like best about it. I've tried other skimmers with air adustments, etc. that I could never get right.
You might consider the pre-filter skimmer box for the bubble problem. They do help.

My remora is producing that wet skimmate-not very dark and concentrated like my Seaclone, but a steady stream of light to medium colored gunk. As trigger guy has, I have the o-ring set so the cup is as high as possible and I still have to empty it once or twice a day. I guess that's just the way it works. I have both skimmers going right now and my seaclone is still producing the darker stuff. I think I will remove it tonight and see how the remora production changes, if at all.
I too like that there are no adjustments (aside from cleaning) to be made in how it operates. I am in the maintenance field and anything that works well AND is low maintenance, I strongly approve of!

If you alter the discharge ramp so the water leaving the skimmer is directed across the top of the water it really helps. It doesn't eliminate the bubbles but it does let them dissipate on the surface of the water so you don't see them. Also directs the clean water away from the pump intake.
I cut a piece of 3/4" vinyl hose to a length a litle wider than the ramp then cut the hose in half so I had a U shaped piece. Put a hole at each end and feed a zip tie (may need to connect 2 to make it long enough) through it and tie it to the ramp so it hooked slightly up at the end, sorta like a ski jump. You are basically making the water from the skimmer upwell so the bubbles are mostly dissipated. I've done it with a remora and a remora pro. Works pretty good. I never was able to get rid of the bubbles any other way.

The bubbles will become less noticable after a while. As for your collection cup, the remora basically will create a wet skim for a while.

Will it eventually get "dryer"? with less water and more gunk? Mine is obviously working, but I would like it to eventually be dryer so I don't have to empty the cup so often.

No, I haven't used that stuff in weeks. Came home this afternoon and the cup was almost up to the top of the tube with discolored water. I will give it a couple of weeks to settle down, but so far I am disappointed in how much water it is pulling out of my tank. I mean, it's obviously pulling doc's out of my tank but my Seaclone made a skimmate much more concentrated. I can't put the cup any higher!

Do you add anything to the tank besides solid fish food?? I added coral vite to my tank when I had my Remora Pro and it filled the cup very fast!
ANY chemicals you can think of?? or supplements or suspension foods??
Oh and in the elbow right above the intake pump is a

[hr]
. You can try to tweek it a little to see if that helps. DO NOT let it come out while the skimmer is on, it will shoot water to the ceiling!
If nothing else helps ask Jason, or the other guy at www dot proteinskimmer dot com.
They will usually respond within an hour

That s c r e w is just a plug for an access h o l e to clean the pump spray area. No adjustment there.

Nope, just flake food.

None. I have done 4 20% water changes w/Reef Crystals/RO/DI in the past 2 weeks on my 55 gal tank as I switch to a reef tank. While I did take my Seaclone out Tuesday, since I got the remora, the Seaclone kept producing less but more concentrated skimmate. I have the Seaclone soaking in a bleach solution (algae in the intake tube) and will be installing it back in my tank in a day or 2.
The instructions did state that it can take (up to) 2 weeks for the Remora to start working but I don't know if they mean placing it in a new tank or what.
I was just thinking-maybe there is an output adjustment on the maxi-jat powerhead and I will check that out when I get home from work tonight.
Not that I'm posting to SWF while on the job or anything.
