I have this protein skimmer for my 55 gallon tank and I cleaned it today. I got rid off the water inside the protein skimmer and changed the powerhead. I change the powerhead because the powerhead that i had it there before broke so i changed it with identical powerhead but the problem now is when I turned it on, it just collecting water not a dry foam. When I woke up this morning the collection cup got overflow with water. What I did is turned off my protein skimmer for now. It would hurt if I turned off my protein skimer for a day.

Try raising the collection cup to get more foam. And going without your skimmer for a day (or forever even) probably isn't going to hurt anything.

I have one also on my 55g. I also just changed the mag3 on it cause the impeller broke and replaced it with another mag3 i had laying around. It also collected lots of water ONLY, no skimmate for a couple days. It has now started to actually skimm. So just be patient it will start back up if it acts anything like mine.

Anttime you take them out of the loop and clean them it takes a couple of days to start working right again, as stated before raise the cup and let it run to start working right again!
