aqua c remora skimmer question?

I have just purchased a used (7months old) aqua c remora w/t a maxi-jet 1200. Right know it is putting some micro-bubbles into my tank, and my LFS store said once algea begins to grow on it it will catch all the mircor-bubbles. Is this true? Also if you raise the collection cup do you get more foam of liquid?
Thanks in advance
P.S.
It amazes me that all this gunk that it is pulling out was in my tank. :scared:

that is sort of true, but also there needs to be a break in period as well. How long have you been running this skimmer?

The break-in period takes 2-3 weeks. After that it should be fine, and yes once it starts growing algae it will stop the bubbles. I have the same skimmer on my tank.

Thanks For all you replies everyone :cheer:

Coasta it will make more of both more water will fill in the collection and also more of the foam. But after a couple days, the substance will be more soupy then say if you had it at the top.

Liquid and "wet" foam if the cups is all the way down. All the way up will be really thick and dry foam. I always kept mine all the way down when i used it.

The farther down the cup is, the wetter the skimmate will be. Also if you put vaseline on the elastic band around the cup it will last longer too, it takes longer to dry out and crack.

Thanks everyone.
One more question. Is it okay if I turn it of at night because it is in my room? Or is it supposed be left on 24/7?

I have the same skimmer and am really pleased. Had a prizm which was a pain. The remora took about 3 weeks before the bubbles went away. Do you have the pre-filter? It helps with the bubbles and also helps the skimmer pull that oily film from the top of the water. Only dawback with the prefilter is that you have to clean the sponge regularly to keep the nitrates down.

I run the aqua c remora pro on my tank...great skimmer. Yes, it is amazing how much gunk it pulls out. With the skimmer cup up it is drier, down it is soupy, but still productive. After any major cleaning of the tank I usually lower the cup to help with pulling out the organics that I may have stirred up.
It definately needs a few days to break in, the micro bubbles will disappear. The skimmer itself needs to build-up a film on the inside walls. Good luck with it. If you ever need technical support, the company is A+ in customer relations.

No I do not have the prefilter box.
I love this skimmer so much. I love it even more because I only paid $75 for it from my LFS.

I have been thinking of putting it on a timer and have it turn off when I am trying to fall asleep then have it turn back on once I am asleep. It would turn off a 9 P.M. then turn back on at 11 P.M.

If you put it on a timer, I would imagine that the pump wouldn't last as long, but maybe not. It should quiet down after a couple weeks, I can barely hear mine running now.

Thats fine I used to turn mine off when the tank was in my room also. The noise will quiet down in the coming weeks.

I guesse I will keep it on a timer and once it quiets down I will just let it run 24/7. By the way thanks everyone for all you help.
