Aqua C Urchin Pro?

Just wondering what you guys thought about this skimmer, or if anyone has experience with it. I am looking for a new skimmer, but my sump is pretty small (it's an AquaClear Pro 75 wet/dry sump). The area I have is maybe 4" X 10" and this skimmer seems to be a good fit. What do you think?

I was researching the pro 300 and I think that it is a good wet/Dry but I think the skimmer is crap. One person said that the pump for the skimmer is loud and doesnt work that much. tell me some more info you find out. Cause i am interested too. But I will probably just make my own wet dry to save money. I hope that helps you some what.

Xtremenemo --- you may be confused ... I have the AquaClear Pro 75 wet/dry right now --- and yes, the skimmer is crap, and the pump is LOUD (rio 600) ... that's why I am trying to replace the skimmer with the Aqua C Urchin Pro. If I misunderstood your post, let me know! And in my opinion ... I would definitely make your own! I wasted my money...

I use a Remora Pro and the Urchin is the same thing with some mods ti sit in the sump. Definately go for the Maxi-jet or Mag pumps, much better than the Rio. My skimmer works very well and I would recomend AquaC to anyone. Depending on budget you could get a skimmer that sets outside the sump and plumb it in. My new set up will work this way. I drilled my acrylic sump and plumbed a E.T.S.S. skimmer. Tank not running yet so I don't know how it will work. Check out this site

Just looked at those ETSS skimmers ... they look pretty nice! Never thought about plumbing a skimmer ... i guess that would be another way to go. Let me know how that ETSS works, or if anyone else has experience with those. Thanks!

i have an urchin pro w/ mag 3 and your not going to fit the urchin pro with any pump in a 4x10 space. the skimmer it's self is 5" because of the 90 elbow for water inlet and then the pump sits off of the front making it 7" total and its 8" wide.
regardless its not going to fit your sump.
your best bet is to go external or use a remora pro and hang it on the sump.

Thanks for the info kc ... now that I look at it, i'm not even sure I would have room in the sump for a remora  ... oh well, back to the drawing board I guess ... thanks again!

This is how I mounted my Remora. My tank is acrylic and I did not have room to HOB. I did need to place a sponge under the return spout to stop micro bubbles and noise from water falling into the sump. Just an idea.
